"Keeping It Real: Transformative Mediation Offers a New Way to Help to Clients in Conflict"
Did you know that there are different methods of mediation, and that you have a choice in the type you use? Join us for a general discussion of the most common methods of mediation, and a detailed exploration of the theory of conflict that sets the transformative model apart. Participants will also leave the session with tips for effectively representing clients in conflict, including:
• getting the most out of mediation
• helping clients break out of the destructive cycle of conflict
• helping clients make the best possible decisions during mediation – those that they will be happy with long term
• what is really going on when clients are fighting over "the little things"
Presenters:
Anna Hagstrom , Hagstrom Law & Mediation, PLLC
Anna Hagstrom is an attorney and transformative mediator, with a solo practice serving clients throughout the Twin Cities, MN and surrounding areas. She has a background in civil litigation and family law, and currently centers her practice on providing mediation for family and other disputes, family law (both traditional and collaborative), and estate planning. She is the author of "So You Think You Can Mediate: My Path to Becoming a (Transformative) Mediator," recently published by the MSBA New Lawyer's section newsletter HEARSAY, available at http://www2.mnbar.org/sections/new-lawyers/2011-12%20Newsletter/Winter2012/NLSWinter2012.html. She received her JD, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School.
Dan Simon , Twin Cities Mediation
Dan Simon is a national leader in the field of transformative mediation. He has trained mediators nationwide for the U.S. Postal Service and the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation; and he offers Civil, Family and Advanced Mediation Trainings every summer in Saint Paul. He has mediated divorce, parenting, workplace, business, eldercare, estate, and personal injury disputes, always using the transformative approach. He's the author of "Transformative Mediation for Divorce: Rising above the law and the settlement", a chapter in Transformative Mediation: A Sourcebook, and available at http://www.mediate.com/articles/SimonD1.cfm. Dan also serves on the Minnesota Supreme Court's ADR Ethics Board. He received his J.D., cum laude, and his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Minnesota.
