There has been a dramatic increase in the number of combat veterans within the last decade. Many veterans rejoin society without any outward sign of trouble, but for others their combat experiences make adjusting a difficult challenge. When a veteran is unable to adjust it frequently means problems for society, police and the criminal justice system.
The Minnesota legislature recognized the issues raised by post combat stress in veterans with recent legislation. This seminar will address the problems associated with post combat stress from the perspective of veterans, police, psychiatrists and the legal profession. Topics addressed will include: recent legislation, best practices to address veteran needs, warning signs of post combat stress and much more. Each topic will be analyzed through the lense of the combat veteran's special circumstances. Following this seminar, participants will be better able to serve veterans in the criminal justice system.
