The MSBA's Criminal Law Section Presents
"Criminal Law Trial School"
Whether you are a prosecutor or defense counsel, new lawyer or old pro, private practitioner or public defender, trial advocacy in the criminal world is often the most exciting – and stressful – part of our practice. That makes sharpening your trial advocacy skills a must for any successful criminal lawyer.
This day-long trial school will cover the basics of successful courtroom advocacy, while also covering strategies and tips from experienced criminal trial lawyers. This program will give you what you need to know to be an effective trial advocate.
The trial school will feature presentations on the important steps in trial preparation, the keys to selecting a jury, how to deliver an effective opening and closing argument, the basics and strategy of direct and cross examination of witnesses, and how to advocate for your client at sentencing. The program will also feature a panel discussion to round out the day, with panelists discussing do's and don'ts from the bench and ethical trial advocacy.
