The MSBA's Children and the Law Section Presents

"2012 Annual State of the Child Summit: Who is Advocating for Children in Minnesota?"
Please join us for Third Annual State of the Child Summit. Justice Helen Meyer will open the Summit by speaking about advocacy for children and parents in the child protection system, the importance of legal representation for parents and children in the child protection cases around the State, a pilot program of the Minnesota Supreme Court and a child protection clinic at William Mitchell.
Following Justice Meyer, Karmit Bulman will discuss how child protection mediation and youth restorative justice mediation are utilized in Minnesota to provide effective, nurturing and strength-based alternatives to addressing child abuse/neglect and youth crime. After Ms. Bulman, a panel presentation will take place with Mary Ann Wren and Linda Miller speaking about federal resources for child human trafficking victims in Minnesota and anti-trafficking efforts in MN using the principles of child welfare response to trafficking. To conclude the Summit, Shannon Smith will speak about why the Indian Child Welfare Act was needed beginning in 1978 and why it is still is needed and important today.
